What is Sustainable Municipal Infrastructure?

Sustainable infrastructure refers to water and sewer systems; roads, streets, bridges; soil remediation practices, and other infrastructure systems that will meet the needs of communities in an economically, socially, and environmentally viable manner.

Sustainability may be measured by improvements in the initial cost of construction, length of operating life of the system, costs of maintenance, and achievable savings in resources used by the system.
